RestaurantCastleman Hotel & Restaurant

Castleman is a popular neighbourhood restaurant which serves dinner every evening and Sunday lunch. We are happy to open for lunches on any other day for parties of twenty or more. Chefs Barbara Garnsworthy and Richard Morris cook varied, seasonal menus with the emphasis on enjoyment rather than fashion. Front of house Edward Bourke and Brendan Garnsworthy offer friendly, relaxed and professional service. Castleman features in several food and hotel guides and has been extensively reviewed in press and magazine editorial which we have quoted throughout this site to give you an idea of our style.

Most Tables have a Window View

The dining room has soft yellow walls, indigo curtains and white table linen. The large windows overlook garden, haha and fields beyond. The paintings include still lives from 16th century Flemish to 20th century British.

The restaurant is non smoking but you are welcome to smoke in the bar and oak room.

The Restaurant

“I'm going back for more...“

“If ever you’re on the lookout for an archetypal English hamlet that’s cut off from the rest of civilisation, then I have just the place. ….It’s called Chettle and it’s in deepest Dorset, about 40 minutes from Salisbury. ….marvellous variety of food…..massive, good value wine list…..delicious home made bread….warm chocolate pudding with vanilla ice cream was unbelievably delicious…..I’m going back for more.”

William Sitwell, Waitrose Food Illustrated, February 2000

“You won’t find a health spa or conference centre, just an informal atmosphere, amiable staff and a delightful restaurant. Dine on local game, wild salmon with samphire or a delicious ragout of monkfish, scallops and king prawns; for pudding perfect Chettle strawberries….. Breakfast includes home cured bacon and exceptional local sausages….. Go for a weekend and you’ll wish you’d booked for a week”

Paul Spike, Vogue, September 1996
